How to get to Historic Centre & Spaccanapoli by metro

Overview

Naples' historic centre is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, a maze of alleys, churches and courtyards crossed by Spaccanapoli, the long straight street that literally "splits" the old city, following the lower Greco-Roman decumanus. From here you reach Piazza del Gesù, Santa Chiara, the Sansevero Chapel (with the Veiled Christ) and the many treasures of ancient Parthenope's heart.

How to get there

Dante station on Line 1 (orange) is the handiest starting point: the exit is on Piazza Dante, from which a 5-minute walk takes you onto Via dei Tribunali or Spaccanapoli. It is the natural gateway to the pedestrian historic centre.

Good to know

💡 Wear comfortable shoes: the streets are paved with volcanic stone and often uphill. Walk Spaccanapoli from west to east to take in churches, artisan workshops and the famous sfogliatelle pastries in one go.
